How much material do you need for a memory bear? A man's short sleeved shirt will make about 3 smaller bears or 1 medium or large bear. A sweatshirt will make 3-4 small, 2 medium or 1 large bear.

Keepsake Memory Bears

There is no wrong or right way for choosing clothes for memory bears. Whether you have a bundle of cute little baby items, a couple of items from loved ones, a wedding dress, sport clothing or even school uniforms which you would like making into a memory bear, all are more than suitable.

To create your bear, send a favorite shirt, blanket, or article of clothing to Carrie Bears. We will turn it into a soft, huggable 20-inch stuffed bear. It is heartwarming to see what happens when we can actually hold something that connects us to someone we have lost.

Memory bears should be treated gently, and should not be machine washed or dried. Spot cleaning with a damp cloth and mild soap is generally recommended.

A woven cotton interfacing works best. To use the interfacing you will need to iron it onto the reverse side of your fabric. An easy way to do this is to draw around the pattern pieces onto the interfacing, cut them out with a margin around each piece, then iron them onto the fabric and cut both out neatly.

Memory Bear Keepsakes help celebrate loved ones and life's special events. Garments and/or other fabrics may be used to craft keepsake bears for yourself, family or friends. Two sizes are available (22" and 18"); some prefer a certain size and some prints or graphics on a garment determine which is the best choice.

In general, we recommend using between 15-40 t-shirts for a quilt, but ultimately it's up to you and what look you're going for. If you want a denser quilt with less negative space, then you'll obviously need more t-shirts. We can make a lap-size quilt with as few as 8-shirts.
