Whether you’re looking to be on trend or are trying to avoid wearing the same thing as everyone else, here’s what costume stores and Google said were the most sought-after costumes of 2023.
Top searches on Google
According to Google, searches for Barbie costumes have been on the rise.
Recently in Ontario, the number of searches for “Taylor Swift costume” increased by a lot (5,000 per cent) in a short period of time.

With the release of the Barbie movie back in July and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour making its rounds, it’s not surprising to see these searches on the list.
Here’s what Google said were the top searches under “kids Halloween costume” in the last 90 days:
- Ghost costume.
- Witch costume.
- Skeleton costume.
- Cat costume.
- Bowser costume.
Amazon bestsellers
We took a look at Amazon’s bestsellers in costumes, cosplay and accessories for 2023.

The page was full of all kinds of Super Mario costumes, which again isn’t surprising considering the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie back in April.
Here’s what turned up under bestsellers:
- Super Mario and Luigi costume.
- Inflatable dinosaur costume.
- Grim Reaper costume.
- Ash Ketchum costume.
- Spiderman costume.
- Where’s Waldo costume.

According to the Halloween costume retailer Halloweencostumes.com, the bestselling and most trending kids’ costumes for 2023 are:
- Little Mermaid.
- Princess Peach.
- Hermoine.
- Harry Potter.
- Ghostbusters.
