My most memorable cooking experience ever is the one that ultimately led to the creation ofOil-Free Buffalo Sauce Dressing!

The first time I ever had buffalo wings was many moons ago when I was a college freshman. My new suitemate was from Buffalo, New York. Some studentsarrive on campus toting hair dryers and mini-fridges; Deb brought a mini fryer and borrowed my dryer. We became fast friends.

After Deb shared a batch of buffalo wings, I completely understood her reasoning for prioritizing a fryer as a necessity for her first year at college. But while we joyfully filled the entire dorm with the aroma of Buffalo wings and hot sauce with our first ever batch, we also landed ourselves in a bit of trouble. As it turned out, it was a big no-no to use a deep fryer in our dorm room – who knew? But the consequence was well worth it. For in the company of a new friend in good old Ohio Hall during my first few weeks at Judson University, my passion for spicy hot Buffalo sauce ignited.

I recall putting about a stick of butter in a bowl and mixing it with Frank’s Redhot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce. But that was then.

What’s the TASTY Secret Behind Oil-Free Buffalo Sauce Dressing?

In this recipe, I’ve lightened things up quite a bit. I’ve let go of the butter altogether but gave up NONEof the magic of thecreamyspicy sauce.

The secret to the creaminess is in the hemp seeds. Hemp seeds are my favorite! And you’ll love them too once you discover how they deliver creaminess along with nutrients rather than empty, useless fat.

  • I certainly mean no disrespect and appreciate the endeavor to present more nutritious Vegan sauce options. That said, this recipe has quite a bit of sodium 650mg per serving which in a single serving is close to half the percentage of the recommended daily amount. In addition, the recipe includes processed oil which has been shown to harden the lining of blood vessels (arteries), promoting coronary artery disease.

    Perhaps you can suggest a healthier alternative to Franks pepper sauce, like a do-it-yourself option for example.

  • Wow! My new buffalo sauce! Delicious and simple! The hemp seeds do make it very creamy. I read John’s comment and then read the ingredients in my bottle of Frank’s. No oil, it does have sodium, 190mg per serving (which is 1 tsp) and a serving is 8% of the daily value. I am definitely having more than 1 teaspoon with my tofu salad tonight. Guess I’ll have to start making my own hot sauce after I finish the 6 25 ounce bottles of Franks in my pantry! Subscribed to the newsletter for more delicious, simple recipes!

  • I commented in March of 2020 on how good this sauce is. I am currently making my version of buffalo jackfruit to go on homemade pizza, store bought crust though 🙁 I used 1/2 cup of each ingredient and then added 1/8 cup of veggie broth to thin it (still tasted delicious). I drained a can of jackfruit & pulsed it in the food processor (next time I will pull apart or cut with a knife so it is not so mushy). I added about 1/3 of my thinned sauce and the jackfruit in my instant pot & pressure cooked on high for 2 minutes. It came out mushy but tasted fantastic! I put it in kind of spread out plops on my pizza. It was yummy! Husband thought so too!
