Pineapple Banana Smoothie Recipe (1)

Pineapple and banana are one of the best combinations for a smoothie. They are naturally sweet, contribute to a creamy texture, and are filled with nutrients. You can’t go wrong! Want to feel like you’re on a tropical vacation? You’re going to love this Pineapple Banana Smoothie!

Recipe Ingredients–What You Need

Pineapple Banana Smoothie Recipe (2)

You only need a handful of ingredients to make this delicious smoothie. You don’t need any added sugar with this recipe as the natural sweetness from the delicious fruits is enough and it has tropical flavors you’ll love any time of year.

2 cups fresh pineapple chunks

Pineapple is a great source of vitamin C, dietary fiber, and provides an excellent anti-inflammatory boost thanks to its bromelain content. Bromelain is a complex of enzymes that have been found to help reduce inflammation throughout the body. Cut your pineapple into small pieces and then measure 2 cups. I usually use fresh fruit for this recipe, but if you don’t have a whole pineapple, frozen pineapple will work. Your final smoothie will be thicker, so you can add more water if needed. I don’t recommend canned pineapple as it usually has sweetened pineapple juice with it and that’s not what we want here.

1 fresh banana

Bananas are a great source of potassium and B vitamins, which help with energy levels, digestion, and muscle relaxation. Bananas are packed with potassium, magnesium, and manganese as well as antioxidants. They’re also perfect for creating a thick, creamy consistency in smoothies. For even creamier results, you can use a frozen banana.

1 heaping teaspoon fresh peeled and chopped ginger

Fresh ginger has an amazing ability to act as an anti-inflammatory, reduce nausea and bloating. It also adds a wonderful spicy flavor to the smoothie that compliments the sweetness of the pineapple and banana.

1/4 cup canned coconut milk

I used canned coconut milk to add more creaminess as well as fat to the smoothie. Fat helps satiate you and is important for brain health. You can use almond milk or oat milk or your milk of choice if you don’t have coconut milk on hand, but it won’t provide the same fat content. Consider using Greek Yogurt as a substitute as well.

3/4 cup cold water

Water is the extra liquid in this smoothie to add make it just the right thickness without taking away from the flavor of the rest of the ingredients or add unnecessary extra calories.

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Vanilla extract adds a touch of warmth to this fruity smoothie.

1 cup ice

I really dislike a room temperature smoothie. This smoothie tastes best when it’s really cold, and the ice makes it the right temperature. It also makes it a little thicker. For the best result, don’t skip the ice!

How to Make a Pineapple Banana Smoothie

Smoothies are really easy to make. All you need to do is add all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. I’ve used a Vitamix blender for over a decade and it’s never let me down. I highly recommend a high speed, professional grade blender to make the smoothest smoothies in no time! Your homemade smoothies will be so much better!

  1. Add 2 all ingredients to a powerful blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Serve immediately.

These optional ingredients can make

  • Adding a handful of leafy greens is a great way to increase the daily values of vitamins even more.
  • In place of the cold water, use fresh orange juice. This will change the calorie count, but will be a delicious variation!
  • Add some chia seeds or hemp seeds for more fiber and protein. (One of my favorite ways to increase the nutrition in my smoothies!)
  • A scoop of unsweetened protein powder is always a great addition when you need more protein in the morning.
