Before you prepare your baby for bed read this once.

Some mothers are too worried about their baby s wellbeing which goes beyond feeding issues and keeping a record of their poop patterns. It is a good thing to be worried about your child, but as you know too much of anything could be bad the same goes for childcare too. A while back in the parenting circles there was this huge debate if swaddling the baby was fine or not. Till the time this debate subsided another one that cropped up was if it is necessary to make the baby sleep in her socks to keep her warm. Here are 10 sleep safe rules for your child.

Well, to begin with, every baby has a different level of comfort and what works for one might not work for the other. Moreover, not all babies might feel comfortable wearing socks to sleep. A mother needs to take cues from her child s behaviour to understand how much clothing can help keep her baby warm. In humid conditions, over dressing, the baby isn t advisable. Too much sweating and discomfort due to extra layers or covers can make the baby cranky and irritable. However, in winters in might become necessary to keep your child well clothed, says Dr Chaitali Laddad, Founder & Director, The Pediatric Network. This still doesn t mean that you wrap your child into a bundle of woollens. Here is why you need to burp your baby before putting her to sleep.

However, it isn t advisable to make your baby wear woollen socks and mittens to sleep. Remember, the layer of clothing that touches your child s skin should always cotton. Light cotton clothes will always soothe a baby and keep her warm. If you are too concerned about your baby s comfort during the winter nights making her wear cotton booties and mittens might just work well, says Dr Laddad. Here are six tips to keep your baby warm during winter.

However, before you start making your baby wear the mittens and booties here are few things to keep in mind says Dr Laddad:

  • If your baby is sweating on her palms and soles, don t make her wear the booties or mittens.
  • If your baby s hands and legs feel warm, don t make her wear the booties and mittens as that can overheat her body.
  • If your baby wakes up in the middle of the night, check whether she has sweaty palms and soles and remove the booties and mittens if the need be.
