All of our detergents are formulated to be tough on stains, but gentle on clothes, and this includes baby's clothing.  It is always a good idea to reference garment care instructions before washing.  Certain stains are best pre-treated prior to washing.

All Seventh Generation laundry detergents are safe for use on cloth diapers. We tested these products on cloth diapers both in a laboratory setting and with parents who use cloth diapers on their babies. The studies show that these products are safe to use on cloth diapers. They do not leave residues and maintain the integrity of cloth diaper fabrics over multiple uses.

Optical brighteners are synthetic chemicals that make fabrics appear to glow in the presence of ultraviolet light. They don't have anything to do with getting things clean -- they're only added to detergents to make us think our laundry is brighter and whiter than it really is. Designed to intentionally remain behind on our clothes and linens, optical brighteners can rub off on our skin where they may cause a reaction that looks like sunburn. They're no fun for the environment either. Optical brighteners washed down our drains frequently survive wastewater treatment and escape into our lakes, rivers, and streams. Once there, they accumulate in fish.

The ingredients that people tend to be sensitive to in laundry detergents are fragrances, dyes and masking agents. People with sensitive skin typically prefer Seventh Generation Free & Clear products, which do not contain fragrances, dyes or masking agents. We offer a full line of laundry items available in Free & Clear formulas: Liquid Laundry Detergent, Concentrated & Ultra Concentrated Liquid Laundry Detergent, Laundry Detergent Powder, Fabric Softeners (liquid and sheets) and Chlorine Free Bleach. Some other brands that label their products "Fragrance Free", "Unscented", or "Perfume Free" may still contain small amounts of fragrances called masking agents, used to hide unpleasant odors from other ingredients. Masking agents are chemicals used to cover up another chemical color or fragrance and are not typically disclosed on ingredient lists.
